Sun Prairie to Host Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

The City of Sun Prairie invites the community to join in honoring the life, legacy, and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at a celebration on Monday, January 20, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event will be held at the Mackenzie Family Boys & Girls Club, 232 Windsor St., Sun Prairie, WI.

This celebration will feature presentations by local Black and African American community leaders reflecting on how Dr. King's work has influenced their own leadership. Attendees will also witness performances by Northside Poetics, the Prairie View and East High School Black Student Unions, and other talented groups and individuals. Local DJ Martinez White will serve as the event's emcee and host.

In addition to presentations and performances, youth can participate in an arts and crafts activity led by the Sun Prairie Neighborhood Navigators. Attendees will also have the opportunity to connect and build relationships during a community meal, catered by Melly Mell’s Soul Food.

“This event is centered on coming together as a community to reflect upon the impact Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life has had on our country,” said Teran Peterson, Neighborhood Navigators Program Manager. “It also provides an opportunity to reflect upon ways we can continue making meaningful progress.”

This event is a collaborative effort between the Neighborhood Navigators, City of Sun Prairie, Sunshine Place, Community Schools, and the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County.
