Sun Prairie Celebrates the 77th Annual Groundhog Day Prognostication

The City of Sun Prairie kicked off the 77th annual Groundhog Day Prognostication this morning in Cannery Square! The ceremony began at 6:50 a.m., with Jimmy the Groundhog making his official prediction at 7:11 a.m. Many gathered from near and far to witness this beloved tradition and hear the highly anticipated prediction.

Mayor Paul Esser’s translation of Jimmy’s prognostication is that spring will arrive early for Sun Prairie.

"Each year the community comes together to celebrate this tradition, creating an atmosphere of excitement for what Jimmy has to say,” said Mayor Esser. "I am quite excited about the prediction of an early spring!"
