Radiance Music Studio hosts ribbon cutting with a song

Friends of Radiance Music Studio owner Clarisse Tobia joined Sun Prairie Chamber of Commerce and Sun Prairie city officials — including Mayor Paul Esser — to cut the ribbon to open Radiance Music Studio, located at 400 W. Main St., on Wednesday, September 4.

Tobia sang an excerpt from the song “Where the Music Comes From” by Lee Hoiby to begin the ceremony for the studio.

“I perform, I teach, and I wanted a space to hold all of them — along with giving opportunities for students to have the chance to do their performances and learn, and, continue to have that enrichment in Sun Prairie,” Tobia said during the ceremony. “I really wanted that, something that I knew, as long as I’m running it, it’s going to be stable and it's going to stay here.”

The studio currently hosts piano, voice and ukulele instruction, but is accepting applications from music instructors to expand the studio’s offerings to the public. “We’ll see what comes in the future — what instruments come our way, which teachers come our way, and what opportunities we’ll have,” Tobia said.

The studio, which opened in June, includes three named studio rooms:

Radiance Theatre — A large 15-by-25 foot space with a baby grand piano, the theatre has a chandelier and stage lights, making it a perfect space for music instruction, recital gatherings, and other performances.

Sunlight Studio — Facing south and enclosed in glass on three sides, the Sunlight Studio provides a warm and bright respite for music during Wisconsin’s long winters.

Starlight Studio — Featuring a namesake starlight fixture, the Starlight Studio provides a unique space for music instruction and practice.

“What I love most about this space is — I drove by the space for many years just watching it and looking at it, wondering what it was, and why it was just sitting here vacant and without a whole lot of love,” remarked Sun Prairie Chamber Executive Director Christina Williams. “And you’ve really taken it and given it love and new life and new energy, and really made the corner more vibrant — not just by what you’ve done with the building, but obviously bringing the business here to this location.”

The new Radiance Music Studio is located near the corner of Union and Main streets — across from Milio’s Subs and close to Kroncke Drive and Bank of Sun Prairie Stadium.

“I want to congratulate you on this new chapter and let you know that we are here for you,” Williams added. “We want to support you and do what we can to see you prosper into the future.”

The mayor explained why he didn’t sing as part of his remarks.

“If Christina had done something with music, I would have been obligated to follow. But to your good fortune, I am not obligated,” Esser joked. “I would have ruined this entire event.”

Esser praised the building’s rebirth during his remarks.

“This is really great to see what you're doing here. I'm anxious to see the inside, to see what it looks like. But that renovation and restoration of an old business coming back with new life, new energy for a new purpose -- that's just perfect, that’s great. We love that in Sun Prairie,” the mayor added. “It's a pleasure to have you here, and on this busy street, where you're going to get a lot of visibility. So best wishes — welcome to Sun Prairie.”

To conclude its grand opening activities, Radiance will host an Open House Event from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, featuring free goodie bags and performances from Radiance music instructors.
