City Council Adopts Ordinance for Vehicle Registration Fee

On Tuesday, September 17, the City Council adopted an ordinance implementing a municipal vehicle registration fee for vehicles in the amount of $30. The fee will be collected by the state along with the annual vehicle registration and will be allocated to a designated fund specifically for transportation-related purposes. Implementation of the fee will generate a steady revenue stream for road maintenance, infrastructure improvements, and other transportation projects to enhance Sun Prairie’s quality of life, reducing reliance on property tax revenue. It will take effect on February 1, 2025.

The fee may be addressed as part of the City's broader financial strategy during an upcoming press conference this Friday.

Press Conference with Dane County Mayors

Several Dane County Mayors are holding a joint press conference to discuss the growing number of communities pursuing funding referenda and to highlight how state-level changes could benefit all Wisconsin residents. The event will be held on Friday, September 20, starting at 10:05 a.m. at Sun Prairie City Hall, 300 East Main Street, Sun Prairie, WI 53590. Please RSVP by emailing City Communications Manager Dylan Brogan at dbrogan@cityofmadison.com to confirm attendance.
