Town of Bristol, Wisconsin - At 8:25 AM on March 2, 2026, Sun Prairie Fire & EMS was dispatched to a single vehicle crash in the Town of Bristol. Initial reports indicated the vehicle struck a guardrail, left the roadway, and collided with a tree.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office arrived first on scene and discovered the vehicle was occupied by a juvenile driver. Deputies immediately requested Sun Prairie Fire & EMS to respond due to the severity of the crash and entrapment.

Sun Prairie firefighters and paramedics arrived within minutes and began coordinated rescue efforts. Fire crews used hydraulic rescue tools, including the jaws of life, to free the trapped patient while Sun Prairie paramedics provided advanced medical care throughout the rescue effort.

The patient sustained critical injuries requiring advanced life support procedures that were performed by Sun Prairie paramedics prior to the arrival of UW Health Med Flight. The patient was transported by helicopter to UW Hospital for further treatment.

Sun Prairie Fire Chief, Christopher Garrison, emphasized the importance of preparation and teamwork during complex incidents like this.

“Crashes of this severity require every part of our team to operate in sync,” Chief Garrison said. “Our firefighters, paramedics, and our partners at the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and Med Flight all worked seamlessly together to give this young patient the best possible chance.”

He also highlighted the value of continual training.

“These situations are chaotic and high risk, but our crews train relentlessly for exactly this kind of call,” Garrison added. “That training ensures that when seconds matter, our people can perform calmly, confidently, and effectively.”

The crash remains under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.

Sun Prairie Fire & EMS provides 24/7 advanced life support to the City of Sun Prairie and the Towns of Bristol and Sun Prairie. While its four paramedic ambulances were fully committed to other emergencies during this incident, off-duty staff responded from home to ensure uninterrupted coverage and handle additional calls.
