Sun Prairie Utilities Recognized for Reliable Electric Service to the Community

SUN PRAIRIE (Wis.) — Sun Prairie Utilities has received national recognition for achieving exceptional electric reliability in 2025. The recognition comes from the American Public Power Association (APPA), a trade group that represents more than 2,000 not-for-profit, community-owned electric utilities.

APPA helps electric utilities track power outage and restoration data through its subscription-based PowerTRX Reliability service. Once per year, APPA’s Reliability Team compares this data to national statistics tracked by the U.S. Energy Information Administration for all types of electric utilities.

Sun Prairie Utilities ranked in the top quartile, or 25%, of utilities for the System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) and qualified for the 2025 Certificate of Excellence in Reliability. SPU’s total score was approximately 11 minutes for the average duration of an interruption per customer. The utilities in the region scored 2 around 103 minutes, while the utilities in SPU’s size class scored roughly 120 minutes.

“We are proud to receive this recognition. It is a testament to the hard work of all our staff to ensure that we keep the Sun Prairie community powered,” said Jill Weiss, General Manager at Sun Prairie Utilities.

Nationwide, the average public power customer has their lights out for less than half the amount of time that customers of other types of utilities do.

“I am continually inspired by the unwavering commitment of public power utilities to delivering reliable service to their communities," said Adrienne Lotto, Senior Vice President of Grid Security, Operations, and Technical Services. "The utilities honored here have set the standard for excellence and dedication, ensuring that families and businesses can count on their local power providers every day.

Congratulations to these outstanding teams for earning this well-deserved recognition and for making a positive difference where it matters most." For more information on Sun Prairie Utilities and its commitment to reliability, visit www.sunprairieutilities.com/safety-and-reliability
