Structure Fire at 333 E. MacArthur Street in Sun Prairie
SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — Sun Prairie Fire & EMS responded to a reported structure fire at 333 E. MacArthur Street in Sun Prairie at approximately 4:45 p.m. Friday, August 14.
Sun Prairie Fire and EMS and the Sun Prairie Police department were dispatched to the residence. Shortly thereafter, a mutual aid box alarm was called.
The first arriving engine found the garage fully engulfed with flames extending toward the living room. The crew began extinguishment of the fire in the garage and moved quickly to cut off the fire before it reached the living room.
As smoke began to push out of the eaves of house, firefighters went onto the roof to cut a ventilation opening to assist with smoke and heat removal.
Three dogs that were trapped inside the basement were rescued. All three dogs were rescued by fire units.
Preliminary estimates place damage to the structure at approximately $225,000, with an additional $40,000 to $50,000 in interior losses.
No residents or firefighters were injured.
Members of Dane County MAFIT (Fire Investigation Team) were also present. The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
Fire officials remind residents that working smoke alarms are critical to providing early warning during a fire. Residents are encouraged to have working smoke alarms on every level of their home and outside sleeping areas, and to develop and practice a home fire escape plan.
