RE: Fire In Duplex
Date: 16 December 2025
This morning at 0821, Sun Prairie Fire and EMS was dispatched to a duplex in the 1100 block of St Albert the Great Drive for a possible structure fire in the garage. The first engine company arrived on scene at 0826 and observed grey smoke coming from an open garage. Most of the fire had been extinguished by residential and police department fire extinguishers. The engine company extinguished the remaining fire with a water can and checked for extension of the fire through the garage drywall. No extension was found. The second engine company assisted with overhaul and ventilated the living space of the duplex.
The cause of the fire was improperly discarded smoking material. Current damage is estimated at approximately $20,000. All damage was contained to one side of the duplex. There were injuries to two of the residents. They were evaluated by the on-scene medics but did not wish to be transported by ambulance for further medical attention. Sun Prairie Fire and EMS would like to thank Sun Prairie Police Department for their assistance.
Safety Message: Smoke detectors save lives. The residents were alerted to the fire by their smoke detectors going off. This allowed for the fire to be caught early and extinguished before it could spread from the garage to the rest of the residence.
