CITY OF SUN PRAIRIE AND URBAN LAND INSTITUTE CHICAGO TO HOST VIRTUAL PUBLIC PRESENTATION ON SUSTAINBLE GROWTH

SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — The City of Sun Prairie in partnership with Urban Land Institute Chicago (ULI Chicago) invites the community to join a virtual public presentation on Wednesday, September 2 at 6:00 pm. This presentation will give an overview of recommendations prepared by the ULI Chicago Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) for Sun Prairie.

Earlier this year, the City of Sun Prairie was selected for the Urban Land Institute Advisory Panel (ULI TAP) program to explore strategies for economically and environmentally sustainable housing development in Sun Prairie to support projected population growth.

The study, which occurred in late June, explored how the City can support 500 new housing units annually through 2040 while balancing land use, infrastructure, public services, and long-term affordability. In addition, the study assessed the potential cost impacts of varying development intensities on existing residents and identified funding strategies to help minimize or offset these costs.

“When it comes to growth in Sun Prairie, it’s not a matter of if, but when – and how much,” said City of Sun Prairie Mayor, Steve Stocker. “We anticipate our population could reach roughly 65,000 people by 2050, which is 30,000 more residents than our 2020 Census population. That’s significant growth, and we have an opportunity to plan it thoughtfully. We’re grateful to ULI Chicago and the TAP program for helping us identify opportunities for smart, economical, and environmentally sustainable housing development that prepares the Sun Prairie community for the decades ahead.”

If you’d like to learn more about the findings of ULI TAP, RSVP by emailing Abbie Olson at abbie.olson@uli.org. A Zoom meeting link will be emailed out to all interested parties 48 hours ahead of the event. The meeting will also be recorded and available for later viewing for those who are not able to attend.
