BARRICADED SUSPECT TAKEN INTO CUSTODY

Sun Prairie, WI - On Sunday, April 19, 2026, at approximately 10:40 AM, Sun Prairie Police Officers responded to an apartment building in the 1300 block of Sunfield Street in the City of Sun Prairie for a reported neighbor disturbance. The caller reported that their neighbor had become upset and was threatening them with a firearm.

Upon arrival, officers made verbal contact with the suspect, at which time the suspect made threats toward law enforcement. Officers immediately withdrew and began evacuating residents from the apartment building while maintaining verbal contact with the suspect.

The Madison Police Department SWAT team and negotiators responded to assist, along with the Dane County Sheriff's Office, which assisted with perimeter security. The suspect initially refused to communicate with police and remained barricaded inside the apartment. Over the course of approximately five hours, officers and negotiators made repeated attempts to establish communication with the suspect.

At approximately 4:00 PM, the suspect agreed to speak with negotiators and subsequently surrendered voluntarily. No injuries were reported to the caller, officers, or the suspect during the incident. Residents were allowed to return to the apartment complex following the conclusion of the incident, though law enforcement continues to investigate and residents may observe a continued police presence in the area.

The suspect, Kevin Djergou, 24, of Sun Prairie, was taken into custody and transported to the Dane County Jail. The Sun Prairie Police Department will be referring the following charges to the Dane County District Attorney's Office:
• Disorderly Conduct
• Second Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety
• Threats to Law Enforcement
• Failure to Comply with an Officer's Attempt to Take into Custody

The Sun Prairie Police Department extends its appreciation to the Madison Police Department and Madison Fire Department, the Dane County Sheriff's Office, and Sun Prairie Fire and EMS for their assistance during this incident.
