Arrest Made Following Multiple Reports of Shots Fired
Sun Prairie, WI – This morning, officers responded to a report of a weapons violation outside the 1400 building of The Element apartment complex located on Park Cir. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a male matching the suspect description.
The suspect was identified as 49 year old, John Osborne of Sun Prairie.
Officers were able to obtain numerous statements indicating there had been a disturbance outside between Osborne and another male. Following the disturbance, Osborne allegedly went to his apartment, retrieved a firearm, returned outside and fired it multiple times. Multiple people, including children, were outside in the immediate area at the time of the shooting.
Fortunately, no one reported any injuries as a result of this incident. The firearm was recovered and Osborne was taken into custody.
Osborne was booked into Dane County Jail and we are recommending the following charges:

Disorderly Conduct (Domestic)

Additional investigative steps are being taken this morning, and this remains an active investigation.
“Gun violence is unacceptable and leaves a scar on our community. I am proud of how quickly our officers responded to this situation and were able to remove the weapon from the streets. These are especially dangerous situations, and we will do our part to hold those who wreak havoc in our communities accountable., said Chief Warych.”
Pursuant to the directive of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicity, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
