103.5 FM WINS FIVE WISCONSIN BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION AWARDS INCLUDING STATION OF THE YEAR

SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association recently handed out their annual awards for broadcasting excellence, and Sun Prairie’s own 103.5 FM WLSP The Sun Community Radio brought home five awards, including the heavily coveted Station of the Year trophy.

Entering in the Large Market Radio category specializing in music format, this was the second year that 103.5 FM (WLSP-LP) won for Station of the Year. It previously won in 2021.

“I was not expecting this award at all, so it’s a wonderful surprise,” said Sun Prairie Media Center Production Manager, Colin Lessig. “I’m so happy for our volunteers who create such entertaining, educational, and interesting content for the Sun Prairie community. From music programs and interviews to high school sports coverage and City of Sun Prairie content tailored to residents, there is something for everyone on 103.5 The Sun. Thanks to the WBA judges, our member/volunteer producers, our staff, our Media Center Commission, our Friends group, and our elected officials for all their support. A great number of hands and talents went into winning this prestigious award.”

Outside of the Station of the Year award (which WLSP actually won in a tie alongside 98.37 WVMO out of Monona, another non-profit low-power radio station), Mark Gonwa and James Kademan won Best Live On-Site Broadcast Remote for their coverage of the 2025 Classic Car Show, Dan Presser and Dubbz McClintic won Best Use of Audio (Non-News) for “A Christmas Carol,” Tim Perko won “Best Sports Coverage” for his announcing of the Sun Prairie East vs. Waunakee softball game, and SPMC won Best Public Service Announcement for its “Election Open House” PSA.

Also recognized were Jamison Rabbit, Steve Sabatke, and Steve Rhoads for their football announcing of Sun Prairie West vs Oregon, which took second place in “Best Sports Coverage,” SPMC’s “Membership PSA” which placed second in Best Public Service Announcement, and SPMC’s “Support SPMC Programming” which took third in Best Station Promo.
