Housing Case Manager
The Housing Case Manager coordinates direct support services for families participating in Housing Programs at Sunshine Place. This position assists individuals and families in Sun Prairie and Marshall with accessing emergency shelter and securing and maintaining safe, stable housing.
The Housing Case Manager provides culturally responsive, trauma-informed services and incorporates best practice approaches to promote long-term housing stability and financial well-being.
Sunshine Place, Inc. is a local nonprofit organization in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Our mission is to serve as a centralized location for those seeking help with food, housing, clothing, and other essential services.
Position Responsibilities & Essential Job Duties
Direct Service
- Assist clients in finding, obtaining, and maintaining safe affordable housing through direct housing counseling, assistance, and advocacy.
- Conduct client assessments and provide individualized case management to support housing and financial stability goals.
- Provide guidance for both individuals and families to find financial stability.
- Obtain all needed documentation from clients, landlords, utility companies and other vendors for financial assistance.
- Develop relationships with agencies, landlords, and groups that support housing access.
- Advocate on behalf of clients to preserve housing stability.
- Advocate with landlords in an effort to preserve consumers' housing.
- Build relationships with transitional housing programs and related service providers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Management & Administrative Responsibilities
- Enter and track all data for families in Sunshine Place’s database in a timely and accurate manner.
- Complete housing-related reports as needed.
- Assist in the development of future Sunshine Place Housing services.
- Participate in housing outreach and meetings.
- Consult and network with outside agencies to strengthen housing services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- Associates degree in the social sciences, human services, or related field is required (relevant experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree).
- At least 2 years of experience in social work, human services, or related fields.
- Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency strongly preferred (verbal and written).
- Must have knowledge about the following: trauma informed care, low-income and subsidized housing programs, issues of mental health and substance abuse, or poverty issues, and knowledge of resources available to low-income households.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively as part of a team – with volunteers, outside agencies, and clients.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Gmail
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to plan and coordinate work independently and proactively, balancing multiple work demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to hold oneself accountable for actions, successes, and failures.
- Must have a high level of personal and professional integrity: ability to deal with sensitive issues in a confidential, professional, ethical, and caring manner.
- Be flexible in the work environment to take direction, work cooperatively as a team, work independently, and adapt to changing organizational needs.
- Must be able to work occasional evening hours or weekends as needed.
Physical Requirements: Primarily sedentary work, exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally or a negligible amount frequently.
Physical Activity: Primarily working position-sitting, with occasional standing, walking, driving, stooping, crouching, and kneeling; frequent reaching, carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling, fingering, grasping, typing, talking-speaking clearly, hearing-conversation, and seeing-nearby.
Work/Environment: Moderate noise level consistent with an office environment.
Personal/Physiological: Interaction with people, working around people, planning of activities, making judgements in emergency situations, frequent changes in duties and volume of work, intra-organizational communication.

Pay: $27.00 - $28.00 per hour
