Public Input Phase Begins for Hybrid Urban Forestry Strategic Management Plan

The City of Sun Prairie Parks, Recreation, and Forestry (SPPRF) Department has commenced the public input phase for its Hybrid Urban Forestry Strategic Management Plan. This initiative is in collaboration with Great Lakes Urban Forestry Management and is made possible by funding through a 2023 Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Urban Forestry Grant.

The Hybrid Urban Forestry Strategic Management plan will play a pivotal role in steering the City's forestry division towards making data-driven decisions that will have a positive impact on Sun Prairie's urban forest. This comprehensive plan outlines the objectives, policies, and actions necessary for effective urban forest management. It also includes a range of recommendations and best practices, covering tree planting, maintenance, preservation, storm response, and sustainable practices. Serving as Sun Prairie's proactive roadmap for managing the urban forest, the plan ensures that the community's trees are healthy, safe, and beneficial to all residents. Through active community engagement, the City aims to ensure it aligns with the unique needs of the Sun Prairie community.

“We are excited about the progress our forestry division has made to advance Sun Prairie’s urban forestry program and services in the last few years,” said Cindy Burtley, Parks and Forestry Director. “The creation of this plan is a crucial step in being able to create and maintain a healthy and sustainable urban forest.”
